Don Carlos Nye, age 66, died at home in Millfield on February 11th. He succumbed to depression, after bravely fighting this physically invisible and insidious illness for decades.
Born in 1948, Don graduated from Chauncey-Dover High School in 1966 and was inducted into the Athens Hall of Fame in 2008. Don is well known as a gentle, kind soul who could befriend and trust anyone. He was most happy when spending time with family and friends and when working as a DJ at DC Shining Star Karaoke. He was a mental health advocate, and raised thousands of dollars to help local residents with healthcare expenses.
Survivors include brother Hubert (Wilma) Nye, Jr., sister Patty (Earl) Davis, sons Ryan (Tara), Neil (Naomi), and Matthew (Katie), 6 grandsons (Gavin, Maxwell, Jameson, Callan, Xavier, and Rowan Nye), and his soon-to-be-born first granddaughter. He is also survived by many other friends, family, and loved ones.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Fern.
Don's wishes were to be cremated. Visitation will be held at Burr Oak Lodge and Conference Center, 10660 Burr Oak Lodge Road, Glouster, from 2 - 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 21st. The family is holding a private service.
