Marie Lila Bentley Stanley

October 16, 1920 — April 24, 2015

Marie Lila Bentley Stanley, 94, of Chauncey, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015, at her home in Canal Winchester, in the loving embrace of her family. Born October 16, 1920, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late William Sanford and Ella Mingus Bentley.

Marie was a daughter, a sister, a young woman, an athlete and a student. She was a wife, a young working mother and a grandmother. Marie loved her family and was the embodiment of love to all that knew her. She loved animals. Most recently she loved her cats Boo and Little Kitty, who were her best companions. They never left her side. But there were so many more loves over the course of her life that she is rejoicing with. She loved reading, flowering, vanilla ice cream, and country music. Marie was one of the founding Women’s Basketball players for Chauncey-Dover High School, in the 1930s. Her love of basketball continued throughout her life. She was an avid NBA basketball fan, who LOVED the San Antonio Spurs.

Marie is survived by her son, Archie William Stanley Jr. (Judy), of Canal Winchester; her daughter, Carol Jean Stanley of Supply, North Carolina; granddaughter, Dannielle Stanley-Reed (Jon) and great grandsons Canyon Stanley Reed, Cole Stanley Reed, and Cooper Stanley Reed; granddaughter Natalie Stanley Escamilla (Cruz) of Delaware, Ohio and great granddaughter Sidnee Lila Stanley, great grandson Roman Robert Stanley, and great granddaughter Evelyn Claire Stanley and a very close friend, Brenda Kasler of Nelsonville.

In addition to her parents; Marie was preceded in death by her Husband, Archie William Stanley, Sr. in 1975; her son Robert Alvin Stanley; and all of her siblings: Joseph, Gerald, Robert and Damon (Bentley); Pauline Bentley Bullock and Rosie Bentley Turrill. They all greeted her as she transitioned from our family to theirs and her energy is bounding again with her loves as it once did in the Hills of Oregon Ridge. Marie is grateful to the people who helped care for her in her home, Kristina, Derek, Kim, Carolyn, and many others. Marie will be missed and her life, her accomplishments and the legacy that she created in our family will never be forgotten. WWG1WGA! Together forever.

A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio, with Pastor Ron Fierce officiating. No calling hours will be observed. Arrangements are by Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
