Russell Owen White

August 22, 1931 — June 5, 2015

Russell Owen White, 83, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at his sister, Patty Napier’s residence in New Plymouth with whom he had made his home for the past year.

Born August 22, 1931 in Haydenville, he was the eldest child of the late Earl and Esther (Kennard) White. Following graduation from McArthur High School in 1949, Owen entered the work force and was employed at Logan Clay Products for 2 years before enlisting in the US Air Force. Owen served from 1951 – 1955 and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his honorable discharge, Owen owned and operated White’s Drilling and later was an instructor at Hocking College.

Owen was a member of Shriners International, Masonic Delta Lodge #207 F&AM, Scottish Rite and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Owen obtained his private pilots license and enjoyed flying out of the Vinton County Airport. He also enjoyed gardening, nature and his faithful companions, his dogs. Owen will be remembered as being a generous, kind hearted and strong willed man.

Owen is survived by his daughter, Cindy White of The Plains, his siblings Pattie Napier, Margie (Jack) McVey of New Plymouth, Betty (Phil) Jenkins of Wellston and Joe (Constance) White of Wilkesville.

In addition to his immediate family, Owen is survived by his stepsons, Joe Bob and Bobby Dean Leffler, several nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Delores White, who passed away in 2007, one stepson, Iven Lehman and a brother-in-law, Vernon Napier.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Rev. Virginia Mingus officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County, with military graveside services being conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. with Masonic services being held at 7:30 p.m.
