Luster Prater

September 30, 1929 — August 2, 2015

Luster Prater, 85, of McArthur, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Ohio. He was born September 30, 1929 in Pikeville, Kentucky, son of the late Perry and Bessie Robinson Prater. Luster was married to the late Lois Coleman Prater.

He retired from Austin Powder Company in McArthur and was a member of Maggie’s Home Church in Dundas. Luster was a man firm in his faith and love. He never feared, never complained, he was strong and kind, smiling at everyone to the end. He never knew a stranger. With open arms and a smile on his face, he greeted everyone and made them feel like family. He was focused on the one thing that really matters in life, relationships. Luster brought joy to those around him and he leaves behind a remarkable legacy.

Luster is survived by his sons, Ron (Jody) Prater of Mobile, Alabama and Randall (Nola Young) Prater of McArthur; daughters, Sharon (Gary) Kersey of Wilmington, Ohio and Lucy (Greg) Peck of Rogers, Arkansas; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Karen Prater and Brenda Prater Paige; sister, Bonnie Adkins and brothers, Charles E. and Harold D. Prater.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, August 7, 2015 at Maggie’s Home Church in Dundas with Elder Donald Mullins, Elder Jerry Runyon and Elder Greg Sowards officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Thursday, from 5-8 P.M.
