Roy Wilson Nixon, 90, of McArthur passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his residence. He was born May 20, 1925 in Vinton County, son of the late Roy Benson and Dora Ethel (Wilson) Nixon. He was married to his loving wife of 66 years, Frances D. (Gearing) Nixon who survives.
Roy was a retired carpenter and home builder. A WWII Army Veteran, he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Life-member of Athens Post #37, DAV and Chillicothe Am Vets, member of McArthur VFW Post #5299.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, Kessler Alan Nixon of McArthur; daughter, Connie (Mark) Osborne of Wellston; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Cody Sexton; brother, Richard Nixon; sisters, Alice Wyatt, Helena Wyatt, Mildred Nixon and Jeanne Radcliff.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur. Military graveside honors to follow at Bell Cemetery, Vinton County. Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at the funeral home.
