Claude M. Mercer, 78, of Malta, Ohio passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at his residence. He was born April 1, 1937 in Owensboro, Kentucky, son of the late L.D. and Mary Mercer. He was the widower of the late Judy A. McLaughlin Mercer who passed away in 2014.
He went to school in Dayton, Ohio and graduated from Stivers High School in 1955. He retired as SGM E-9 from the Army National Guard after serving 24 years in Dayton, Ohio and Wichita, Kansas. He was a member of the American Legion for over forty years in three different states, most recently Post 24 of McConnelsville. He and his wife both retired from NCR Corp in 1994 after working in Wichita, KS and West Columbia, South Carolina.
Claude is survived by three daughters, Bambi (Randall) Poore of Malta, Ohio, Kimberly (Vernon) Johnson of Wichita, Kansas and Tammy Pinner of Cayce, South Carolina; two sons, Charles Lee Mercer of Malta, Ohio and Bret Allen Mercer of Lexington, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; many nephews and nieces; one half-brother, Urey Lindsey Bell of Little Elm, Texas.
Along with his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by three half-sisters, Blanche Wood, Kathryn Thorne and Betty Soma; and one grandson, Chester Johnson.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday March 7, 2016 at 12 Noon at Fairview Holiness Church, 9825 W. Mountville Rd., Glouster, Ohio 45732, Burr Oak Dock 3. Arrangements by the Cardaras Funeral Home, 30 Main Street, Glouster, Ohio.
