Louellen E. (Cooper) Mclaughlin

Louellen E. (Cooper) McLaughlin, age 98, of Hamden, Ohio, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Jenkins Community Care Center of Wellston, Ohio.

Louellen graduated from Vinton Rural High School in 1935 and was a loving wife to Lewis McLaughlin. They were married June 22, 1935. She was a 63 year member of the Hamden United Methodist Church, where she served as a youth leader, a member of the United Methodist Women, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. She was Secretary of the Official Board and for several years she and her husband had services at the Chapel in the Woods at Lake Alma and Old Mans Cave. She was a member of Eastern Star, and was also a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. Louellen was a very loving mother, homemaker and a caretaker for many children in her lifetime. She and Lewis were blessed to be able to look after and be caretakers of the Vinton County Children’s Home in McArthur, Ohio for several years.

Louellen is survived by her children, Sandra Bates of Hamden, Ohio and Raymond McLaughlin of Logan, Ohio; grandchildren, Joey Bates, Julie Bates, Jeffery (Jona) Bates, Beth Ann (Ian) Lenegar, Raymond (Angel) McLaughlin II and Elisabeth McLaughlin; great grandchildren, Amy Phillips, Cameron and Conner Bates and Brandon and Lacee Kuhn and great great grandson, Brock Mullins.

Besides her parents, Louellen was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis McLaughlin, daughter-in-law, Carolyn McLaughlin; sisters, Flora Arbaugh, Elda Riley, Etta Jeffers, Melba Perry, Dena Jeffers and Leah Cooper and brothers, Wayne, Clyde, Glen and Francis Cooper.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2016 in the Hamden United Methodist Church, 10 W. Chillicothe St., Hamden, with Rev. Rodney Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Radcliff Cemetery, Radcliff. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home on Sunday, from 2-5 p.m.
