John Benjamin Roth, 82, of Nelsonville, Ohio died peacefully at home on August 27, 2016 in the presence of his beloved wife, family, and his dog Unkus. John was born in Phoenix, AZ on July 7, 1934 to Carl and Clara Roth, the seventh of 9 children.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sue Roth of Nelsonville, step-children Cheryl (Jack) Lee of Nelsonville, OH and Brenda (Rick) Ruegsegger of Westerville, OH; Steven (Cheryl) Dunn of Sunbury, OH and Dennis (Adele) Dunn of Gahanna, OH along with a sister Anna (Bill) Cook of Walnut Creek, CA and a brother Jerry (Rose) Roth of North Ridge CA ; Mary Roth (sister-in-law) of Clearwater, FL and Mary Roth (sister-in-law) of Lockport, NY as well as 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school in 1952, John joined the U.S. Army and completed 8 years as a radio electrician. John received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University and immediately after graduation he was hired as a sound engineer for the CIA. His service took him to many countries where he believed he was supporting fledgling governments through his technical innovations and thereby improving democracy and human rights. He retired from government service in 1978 to begin a life of farming in Tiffin, OH and then in Nelsonville OH where he and his wife moved in 1984. John was passionate about organic farming, healthy living and above all, loving those God placed in his life with generous affection and unconditional acceptance. He will be mourned greatly and missed always.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville and a graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday September, 2, 2016 at Union Cemetery in Morrow County.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of John Benjamin Roth may be made to the angels at Fairhope Hospice, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster OH 43130.
