Vernon R. Sahlin, 79, of New Straitsville, passed away peacefully at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was born August 8, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Vernon R. and Ruth S. Moerle Sahlin. Vernon was married to Ruth Whetstone Sahlin, who survives.

He retired from the Department of Corrections in Lancaster and was an Army Veteran.

Vernon is survived by his sons, Michael (Ngan) Sahlin, Joseph (Amy) Sahlin, John (Kristil) Sahlin and James (Amanda) Sahlin; daughters, Barbara (Tom) Moore, Mary Israsena, Patricia (David) Ryder, Terese (Dennis) Pulliam and Carole (Billy) Adams; stepson, Matt (Pam) Eveland; step daughters, Jan (Brian) Flynn and Cinda Wilson; thirty eight grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherin Sahlin; stepson, Mark Eveland; brother, Ronald Sahlin and sister, Marilyn Brundidge.

Services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Rev. Bruce Livingston officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
