David Hill of Nelsonville, OH, passed away in his sleep in St Petersburg, Florida on Friday October 28, 2016 at the age of 68.
David was born to parents John Edward Hill and Effie Esther Hill on July 5, 1948 in Drums, PA and moved to Pinellas Park, Florida with his family as a child. He grew up as the second youngest of six and attended Northeast High School. David was a talented artist. After high school, he took a position as an illustrator for the St. Petersburg Times where he got to meet and sketch rock legends Janice Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix. He also worked for the Evening Independent and freelanced for numerous newspapers, advertising agencies, and lithography companies. His life and work took him to Anchorage, Alaska where he met the woman of his dreams, “the woman at the bottom of the stairs”, Billie Jean McGuire, as he often said “the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on...my Hill Billie…the one” and together they moved to Nelsonville, Ohio.
David was a husband, father and grandfather. He was a life long dog lover, a connoisseur of music, and an appreciator of nature. David was a storyteller and a collector of memories. He loved to play guitar with his closest friend Dave Parker and sang in various bands in his 20’s. He was proud to share that he drank beer, southern comfort and smoked weed with Janis Joplin on his 21st birthday at the Atlanta Pop Festival on July 5th, 1969. David had a lifelong beard and long hair and he knew how to rock a top hat. He was generous with what he had, made friends easily and knew no strangers. He lived life to the fullest and always remembered to say I love you.
David is survived by his wife Billie Jean Hill, his siblings Jack Hill, Richard Hill, Marilyn Hammond and Gladys Fisher, his daughter Jennifer, son Gabriel, daughter Laura. His step children Carol, Trevor, David, and Candace and many beautiful Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Charlotte Fidishun.
