Sylvia L. Reid

Sylvia L. Reid, 77, of McArthur, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at her residence.  She was born December 27, 1939 in Vinton County, daughter of the late David and Grace Howe Richards.  Sylvia was married to Cecil W. Reid, who survives.

She retired from Vinton County Schools as a teacher and was also a two time recipient of the Who’s Who among America’s Teachers.  Sylvia was a member of the Allensville Church of Christ In Christian Union, the McArthur BPW and enjoyed her summers volunteering at Nipgen Church Youth Camp.

She is survived by her son, Timothy (Zera) Reid of McArthur; daughters, Carolyn (Bradley) Palmer of McArthur and Peggy (Mike) Bishop of Creola; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and a sister, Francis Flory of Idaho.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her son, Thad Reid; daughter, Regina McClure; brothers, Clarence and Clyde Richards and sisters, Laura Richards, Ida Mae Barton and Mary Ann Mason.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Allensville Church of Christ In Christian Union, 31814 Goosecreek Rd., McArthur, with Pastor Wes Gallaugher officiating.  Interment will be Mt. Olive Cemetery, Vinton County.  Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Friday, from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
