Donald J. Harris

Donald J. “D.J.” Harris, 73, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.  He was born October 10, 1943, son of the late Woodrow Harris and Evelyn Sunny (Robert) Deem.  He was married to Pamela S. Tolliver Harris, who survives, for 13 years.

Mr. Harris retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the Ohio Air National Guard, 160 th Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base. He served during both Vietnam and Desert Storm where he was a Boom Operator on the KC-97 and KC-135 aircraft. He also retired from the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Department where he had many duties including being a bailiff at the courthouse. He was a member of the F.O.P. 50 and former president of the Fairfield, Hocking and Perry County F.O.P.  He attended the Nelsonville Wesleyan church and was an avid car enthusiast who enjoyed attending and participating in car shows.

In addition to his wife, Pam, he is survived by, two sons, Dean Harris of Medina and David (Ann) Harris of Columbus; two daughters, Debbie DeWitt of Arizona and Lori King of Delaware; granddaughters, Lauren and Megan; brother, Tom (Terry) Harris of Montana; sister, Penny Deem of Wyoming and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Larry Skinner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church, corner of Chestnut and Harper Sts., Nelsonville with Rev Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville where military graveside services will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 PM at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
