Brenda Joyce Smith

Brenda Joyce Smith, 70, of Chillicothe, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.  She was born September 17, 1946 in Ross County, daughter of Lila Janet Kermon Fries of Richmondale and the late Kenneth Wayne Fries.  Joyce was the widow of the late Dr. Charles Smith.

Joyce was a retired Vinton County School Teacher, a retired pastor for both Union and New Marshfield United Methodist Churches and was formerly very active in the Vinton County 4-H Program.

She is survived by her son, Charles (Jill) Smith of Chillicothe, granddaughter, Cortney Willis of Chillicothe; brother, Kenneth (Nancy) Fries of Richmondale; sister, Annette Crawford of Chillicothe and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her nephew, Josh.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Union United Methodist Church, 6897 State Route 56, Athens, Ohio 45701 with Rev. Dr. Walt Goble officiating.  Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are by Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur.
