Alberta F. Sims

Alberta F. Sims, 93, of McArthur, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.  She was born October 14, 1930, in Hocking County, daughter of the late Everett and Leota Maloney Dicken.  Alberta was the widow of the late Vernon Sims.

She retired from Vinton County Schools and was a member of the McArthur Eagles Post #2279 Ladies Auxiliary.

Alberta is survived by her sons, Michael J. (Debbie) Sims of McArthur and Dean L. (Carol) Sims of Creola; daughters, Bonnie (Perry) Byers of Peebles, Ohio, Cheryl (Jerry) Vanover of Laurelville and Kelly Maxwell of McArthur; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sisters, Sandy Rizer of Lancaster and Glenda (Richard) Zimmerman of Wellston; son-in-law, Richard Nickels of McArthur and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Bruce W. Sims; daughters, Dixie Nickels and Carolyn Hamner; grandsons, Nathan Maxwell and Steven Sims and sister, Louella Hushower.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2024, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Taylor officiating.  Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.  The McArthur Eagles Ladies Auxiliary will hold a special service at 12:30 p.m.
