Arther “Art” Hammond, 75, of McArthur, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Four Winds Community in Jackson. He was born September 15, 1945, in Clifford, Kentucky, son of the late Gordon and Norma Marcum Hammond. Art was married to Evelyn Nickels Gilliland Hammond, who survives.
He retired from CSX Railroad and was a United States Army Veteran. Art Attended Outreach North in McArthur and was in the Vinton County Coaches Hall of Fame. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Art is survived by his sons, Arther (Kimmie) Hammond Jr. of Hebron, Kentucky and Jeff Hammond of Centerville; daughters, Dianna Berry of The Plains, Amy (Dustin) Ward of McArthur and Jenny (John) Wells of Wilkesville; stepson, Scott (Annette) Gilliland of Dayton; stepdaughter, Shannon (Chip) Allman of Chillicothe; seventeen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Ruby Adkins of Pikeville, Kentucky and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Hackney Hammond; brother, Wilbur Hammond and sisters, Delores Pope, Nannie Marcum and Mary Ann Burgess.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2021, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Seth Bledsoe officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
