Arthur Clayton Blackford

Arthur Clayton Blackford, 90, of Nelsonville, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Laurels of Athens.  He was born May 12, 1927 in Cardondale, Ohio, son of the late Allen and Inez Gabriel Blackford.

He was a railroad worker until he went into the US Army during WWII.  Afterwards, he was a heavy equipment operator and concrete truck driver.

Clayton is survived by his step-daughters, Nancy Clark, Barbara Lanning, Mary Warren and Linda Smith; and all his special grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Velma Smith; her son, Hershel Smith and grandson, Tommy Clark; brother, Leo Blackford; sister, Mona Lee Chaney; nephew, David Chaney.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018 at New Marshfield Cemetery, New Marshfield.  Rev. Mike Thomas officiating.  Arrangements are by the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
