Arthur L. Hewitt

April 21, 1926 — November 4, 2020

Arthur L. Hewitt, 94, of Nelsonville, passed away Wednesday November 4, 2020 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.  He was born April 21, 1926 in Connett, Ohio, the son of the late Ashford P. and Dora Andrews Hewitt.  He was married to the late Wavelene Dupler Hewitt, for 61 years, and she passed away in 2012.

He was a US. Navy Veteran serving in World War II from 1943-1946.  He was a retired Lineman and Supervisor with Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company/American Electric Power, with 38 years of service.  He was a member of Paramuthia Lodge, #25 F&AM, Athens;  32 nd degree Mason, and he was the oldest member of Buchtel United Methodist Church.

Arthur is survived by sons, Steve (Mary) Hewitt of The Plains and Tom (Venis) Hewitt of Beavercreek; daughter Debra (Bob) Horowitz of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Derrick (Ashley) Hewitt of Coolville, Shawn, Christopher, Phillip Hewitt of The Plains, Bethany (Brandon) Lackey of Guysville, Josh (Carin) Horowitz of Florida, Aaron Horowitz of Florida; great-grandchildren, Caden and Chloe Hewitt, Gavin Lance, Holden and Hanna Hewitt; numerous nieces and nephews including, Sandy Shultz, Bob and Sandy Hewitt, Carol Hewitt Wells and Sherri VanMeter, Dave Halby and Joe Halby.

Along with his parents and wife, Arthur was preceded in death by brothers, Harry and Gerald Hewitt; sisters, Hazel Parker and Ruth Halby.

Private graveside services will be held at Conner Cemetery, Buchtel with Pastor Dave Shoemaker officiating.  Arrangements are by the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Arthur Hewitt may be made to Buchtel United Methodist Church, 17890 Akron Ave., PO. Box 230, Buchtel, Ohio 45716.

The family regrets not being able to have a public service due to COVID concerns.  They hope to have a Celebration of His Life in the future when it is safer for all to gather.
