Betty Jane Willis

Betty Jane Willis, 97, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 after a brief stay at the Laurels of Athens.  She was born October 5, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret Lenart Hanning.  She was the widow of the late Charles Willis.

Betty was retired from Seaman’s Market in Athens.

She is survived by special caregiver and niece, Julie (Mark) Sinnott of Union Furnace; brother, David N. (Kathy) Hanning of Nelsonville; sisters, Esther Fussner of Little River, SC and Barbara Boggess of Hillsboro; sister-in-law, Nancy Hanning of Nelsonville as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by brothers, John Hanning, Alfred Hanning Jr. and Frederick W. Hanning; sisters, Eva Baker, Ruth Dukeman, Irene Lovsey, Margie Ogg and Eleanor Hanning and brother-in-law, Everett Boggess.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville with Pastor Jon Hanning officiating. Interment will be at Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield. Friends may call Saturday, from 11 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
