Clara Ann Scarberry

Clara Ann Scarberry, 82, of McArthur, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster. Clara was born May 12, 1942, in Vinton County, the daughter of the late Edward and Violet (Bentley) Smathers. She was married for 58 years to the late George Scarberry.

Clara was a retired healthcare aide. Throughout the years, she worked at Super Value, Banquet Foods, and Arcadia Acres. Clara and George owned and operated the Dairy Bar in McArthur for several years. As the oldest of 21 children, Clara has always been a caregiver to everyone. She was very talented in sewing, crafting, and cooking. Clara was the best Mom and taught her children many valuable skills. Clara never met a stranger and was loved by all she encountered throughout her life.

Clara is survived by her son, Gregory (Cathy) Scarberry of McArthur; daughters, Carol (David) Whaley of McArthur, Lois Storms of McArthur, and Kimberly (Ray) Jeffries of Wellston; son-in-law, Mike Gilliland of McArthur; grandchildren, Jamie, Michael, Roy Lincoln, Eric, Megan, and Kevin; numerous great grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Charlene Gilliland; and several brothers and sisters.

Graveside funeral services and interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call Tuesday, from 1-3 p.m. at Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur.
