David Ray Hanley

December 14, 1937 — September 18, 2018

David Ray Hanley, 80, of Grove City, formerly of Athens, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Country Lane Gardens Nursing Home in Thornville.  He was born December 14, 1937 in Athens County, Ohio son of the late William Walter and Iva Ruth Smith Hanley.

He was a US Marine Corps Veteran, and was retired from Central Ohio Coal Co., as a Heavy Equipment Operator, for over 20 years.  He was greatly loved by his family and will be sadly missed.

David is survived by his daughters, Rita Hanley of Columbus and Jody (Charles) Manbevers of Grove City; dear friend and companion, Peggy; brother, Melvin Hanley of Lancaster; sisters, Ruth Ann “Annie” (Bob) Stanley of Glouster and Carolyn Fisk of New Marshfield; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Norma Moyer, Virginia White and Mary Jo Wear; brothers, Miles and Will Hanley.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 20, 2018 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.  Brother Curt Cable officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Athens County Honor Guard.  Arrangements are by the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
