Debra J. Lowery “Debbie” age 67, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at O’Bleness Hospital in Athens, Ohio.
Debbie was born Dec. 14, 1954, in Athens, Ohio. In 1972 she was a graduate from Athens High School. On May 26, 1990, she married the love of her life, Barry W. Lowery Sr. Together they raised 3 children, Kelly Lowery (Evan Speelman) of Nelsonville, Barry Lowery Jr. (Tina Lowery) of Glouster and Erin Dishon (Kyle Dishon) of Glouster. Debbie retired in 2020 after spending more than 45 years working for HAP CAP Head Start. She supported, nurtured, and guided thousands of children and families during her time with the program. Debbie was loved and respected by everyone she worked with. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to listen and empathize with others. She will be remembered for her kind words, beautiful smile, and wicked sense of humor.
Of all the titles she carried, “MaMa” was her favorite one, with 10 grandchildren, Jade Lowery (Kasey Murphy), Michaela Hull (Noah Hull), Dustin Lowery, Baylee Lowery (Cameron Roush), Brennan Triplett, Brody Lowery, Briley Mash, Bentley Lowery, Rilynn Mash, Kash Dishon and 4 great grandchildren, with one on the way, Zayne Murphy, Connor Hull, Charlee Murphy, Cooper Hull and Sebastian Murphy. The Love she gave was unconditional. Her time was spent at home with her family, cooking, playing, laughing, and planning the next Holiday or family event. Debbie had a magical way of creating the best traditions and always going above and beyond for those she loved. She had so many friends who became family, Chris DeLamatre, her HAP CAP family, and Jeremy Hashman (Amanda Wright) held a special place in her heart.
Debbie is preceded in death by, her mother, Wanda “Jean” Ball; Grandparents, John “jigger” and Lena Schoonover; Sisters, Darlene Frazier and Sherrie Sams; plus nephew, Bryan Ball.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday December 3, 2021 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St. Nelsonville, Ohio. Immediately following services, she will be laid to rest at Beech Grove Cemetery near Glouster, Ohio. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
The family is asking for donations to be sent to HAP- CAP, 3 Cardaras Drive, PO Box 220, Glouster, Ohio 45732. Helping local families was of great importance to Debbie.
