Dixie S. Nickels, 68, of McArthur, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. She was born October 29, 1949 in McArthur, daughter of the Alberta Dicken Sims of McArthur and the late Vernon Sims. Dixie was married to Richard E. Nickels, who survives.
She is survived by her sons, James Smith of McArthur, Robert (Patricia) Smith of McArthur and Shane (Nikki) Nickels of Albany; daughter, Teresa (Bryan) Dewhurst of McArthur; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Michael (Debbie) Sims of McArthur and Dean (Carol) Sims of Creola; sisters, Carolyn Hamner of Logan, Bonnie (Perry Byers) Morgan of Peebles, Cheryl (Jerry Vanover) Sims of Laurelville and Kelly (Robert) Maxwell of McArthur and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Dixie was preceded in death by her first husband, James F. Smith; great grandson, Gabriel Dillon and brother, Bruce Sims.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2018 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
