Edward Peacock, 96, of Nelsonville, passed away peacefully from this life on Friday, October 13, 2017, surrounded by family in his home, as was his wish.
He was born January 30, 1921 in Orbiston to the late Clarence and Laura (Poling) Peacock. He retired from the Kaiser Aluminum Company in Heath, Ohio and moved to Nelsonville in 1984. He had previously worked in area coal mines as well. Ed was known as a hard worker who loved his family, enjoyed his friends, had a sharp mind and always a friendly wave. He was an avid reader of western books and really enjoyed some good polka music.
Ed was a decorated World War II Veteran, serving in China, India and Burma. He was awarded 3 Bronze Stars, among other citations of honor. He was a proud lifetime member of the Murray City Legion Post # 420.
Ed is survived by his children Larry (Kay) Peacock, of Newark, Glenna Sanborn, of Hebron, Susie (Oscar) Edwards, of Nelsonville, Donald (Sharon) Peacock, of Newark, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend and neighbor, Bob Loudner, of Nelsonville.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Vera, in 2006, his siblings Bobby, Delbert, Hazel (Robison), Etta (Bateman) and a grandson Jerry Wolf.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the wonderful team of caregivers from OhioHealth Hospice: Patty, Summer, Allie, Chris, Jessica, Rebecca and Tammy. You provided compassionate care and we are grateful.
Very special thanks to Deb Perkins and the entire homecare team from VA services for the wonderful years of care you provided.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville with the Rev. Ernie Perkins officiating, along with special guest speaker Eva North. Burial will be in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville following a full military graveside service. Friends and family may call Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to OhioHealth Hospice, 180 E. Broad, Suite 431, Columbus, Ohio 43215 in memory of Ed.
