Evelyn B. Sheets, 79, was surrounded by her loving family as she peacefully went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was the daughter of the late James Garland Holley and Fern Stump Holley of New Plymouth, Ohio.
Evelyn was born on September 30, 1938 in Carbondale. She was the eldest of nine children and graduated from Zaleski-Brown High School. Evelyn worked as a telephone operator and in retail, and as her children grew older she fulfilled her lifelong dream and became a nurse. She worked as a nurse in hospitals, nursing homes, and home health care until she was well into her seventies.
She is survived by her high-school sweetheart and husband of sixty years, Richard Sheets of Millfield, her children Rick (Karen) Sheets of Nelsonville, Tammy (Leon) Butler of Grove City, Rob Sheets of Millfield, and Joey (Cheri) Sheets of The Plains. She is also survived by her sister Angela (Jan) Nilsen of Albany, and brothers, Rodney (Rebecca) Holley of Athens and Jeff Holley of New Plymouth. She also had seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers James Holley, Jr., Larry Holley, Danny Holley, and Randy Holley, and sister Judy Brooks.
Evelyn’s great passions were going to church, cooking, gardening, and her love for her family and friends. She loved being a nurse, and during her forty-year nursing career she cared for many people and grew to love some of her patients like family.
