Fred G. Ratliff, 79, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus. He was born May 20, 1938 in Pilgrims Knob, Virginia, son of the late Orson Pratt and Lydia Margaret Rife Ratliff. He was married to Virginia Mullins Ratliff, who survives, for 57 years.
Fred graduated from Zaleski High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was a local businessman who owned several businesses including Twin Maples Nursing home in McArthur. Fred was a kind and generous man who never met a stranger and would gladly help a person in need.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Harold (Ellen) Ratliff of Lancaster; daughter, Crystal Ratliff of McArthur; grandchild, Ryan (Sarah) Ratliff of Lancaster; great grandchildren, Will and Juanita; sisters, Lois Chesser and Mary Brannock, both of Gallax, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his grandson, Shaun Ratliff and siblings, Agnes Hicks, Alice Clifton, Ivory Miller, Mabel Rife, Esther McClain, Clara Adeline Magee, Faye Matney, Ruth Fayard, Hallie Ratliffe, Hurtle Ratliff and Harold Ratliff.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Thursday,, February 8, 2018 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with Pastor Mark Barbee officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
