Garnet Marie Engle

Garnet Marie Engle, 95, of McArthur, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at her residence.  She was born January 4, 1926, in Athens, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank M. and Elsie M. McNeal Murphy.  Garnet was married for 70 years to Wilbur Eugene “Gene” Engle, who survives.

Garnet was a member of the Sereno Chapter #128 OES in McArthur, the McArthur Red Hat Matrons and several other community organizations over the years.  She was an avid horse lover, gardener and enjoyed spending quality time with her beloved family.

Garnet is survived by her daughter, Lisa Graves of McArthur; granddaughters, Ashley (Josh) Ervin of New Plymouth and Allison (Alex) Graves-Fowler of Carthage, New York; four step granddaughters; great grandchildren, Rhone Fowler, Canyon Ervin and future great granddaughter, Alayna Fowler; several step great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Mary Morgan of Athens; brother-in-law, William Herron of McArthur and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John D. “Jack” Murphy and Frank M. Murphy and sisters, Ann Herron and Helen Eversberg.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 16, 2021, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Elder Chuck Fri officiating.  Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service where an Eastern Star service will be held at 1 p.m. and a Red Hat service will immediately follow.
