Gary Lee Poling

Gary L. Poling, 72, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.  He was born October 4, 1945, son of the late Charles Alonzo “Lon” and Louise Rowland Poling. He was married for 48 years to Dorothy M. (Horne) Poling, who survives.

Gary graduated from Athens High School in 1963 and Ohio University in 1970.  He enjoyed a career at Ohio University, first in the Clippinger Lab and then in the Alden Library, that spanned more than 30 years.  He was an avid Bobcat and Marching 110 fan.  He enjoyed meeting new people and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his children, Gary R. (Christine) Poling of Forest, Virginia, Gayla L. Poling of Rochester, Minnesota and Ginger (Brian) Heidlebaugh of Lancaster; grandchildren, Caleb, Joshua and Victoria Poling and Grayson Heidlebaugh; and dear family member, Shirley Dupler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian Lee Poling.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 15, 2018 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor David Shoemaker officiating. Interment will be at Athens Memory Gardens. Friends may call Sunday from 4-6 PM and Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
