Gary Lee Wisor

Gary Lee Wisor, 64, of Buchtel, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital, Athens. He was born June 12, 1957, in Bellaire, Ohio, the son of Janet Brooks Peifer. Gary was married to Vicki Martinez Wisor who survives.

Gary worked as a coal miner for several years before becoming a teacher. He worked as a special education teacher for 24 years.  Gary loved music and he loved playing music, especially guitar.

In addition to his wife and mother, Gary is survived by his son, Garrison (Ashley) Wisor of Nelsonville; daughter, Jessica (David) Herring of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Sophie Wisor, Emmett Herring, Emerson Herring, and Henry Wisor; brothers, Michael (Sandy) Wisor of Crooksville and Todd (Brenda) Wisor of Zanesville; brother-in-law, Joe Martinez; niece, Maria Martinez; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Justin Peifer; sister, Michelle Brooks; and grandparents, Margie and Lawrence Brooks.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022, in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating.  Family and friends may visit from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests donations be made in memory of Gary to the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church, 600 Chestnut St., Nelsonville, Ohio 45764.
