George H. Simonton

George H. Simonton, 77, of Nelsonville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021, at O’Bleness Hospital, Athens.  George was born May 25, 1944, in Nelsonville, the son of the late Marion “Pete” and Evelyn Stufflebean Simonton.  He was married to Mary Westerviller Simonton, who survives.

George served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  George loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by his daughters, Laurie (Carl) Holley of Nelsonville and Cynthia “Cindy” (John) Cox of Grove City; son, Peter Simonton of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Megan (fiancé, Dylan) Holley of Nelsonville, Abby Holley of Nelsonville, Brandon (Sarah) Young of Nelsonville, Bradley Young of Nelsonville, Ethan Cox of Grove City, Curtis Cox of Grove City, Sarah Joy Cox of Grove City, Kristopher (Cassie) Young of Nelsonville, Kimberly Young of Nelsonville, Hunter Simonton of Bremen, Hastings Simonton of Nelsonville, and Ciera Bitler of Nelsonville; great grandchildren, Alli, Xavier, Dale, Alexha, Zach, and Daniel; brother, Larry Simonton of Nelsonville; and sisters, Leatha Guess of Logan and Virginia Tedrow of London, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son, George Howie Simonton; and brother, Marion “Picky” Simonton.

Funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.  Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
