Gladys Irene Schroeder, 89, of McArthur, Ohio was welcomed into her heavenly home on Saturday September 18, 2021. She died peacefully at home with family by her side. She was born October 17, 1931 to the late Helen Stringfellow Betts of McArthur, Ohio. On August 2, 1947, she married Walter Schroeder who preceded her in death on January 23, 1998.
She is survived by her son Roy (Peggy) Schroeder and daughters Ruth(Michael) Yerardi, Mary (Stefan) Seal, Georgia Schroeder, and Patty Schroeder-McDaniel; grandchildren Patrick (Sarah) McCarty, Pamela (Mark) Krider, Renee (Dan) DiCerbo, Kathy (Bill) Richardson, Michael (Devon) Seal, Jason (Kathleen) Yerardi, Adam Yerardi, Tricia (Nathan) Whittaker, Olivia Schroeder-McDaniel, and Jacob Schroeder-McDaniel; step-grandchildren Chris (Janda) Eldridge, Anthony Yerardi, and Andrew Yerardi; great grandchildren Katelynn Yerardi, Emily Richardson, Abby Richardson, Charles Seal, Rachel Whittaker, Nathaniel DiCerbo, Elise Whittaker, and Abigail Seal; step-great grandchildren Ava Eldridge and Gwen Eldridge; Matthew DiCerbo and Anthony DiCerbo. She is also survived by her brother Donald (Betty) Betts, nephews, nieces, and many close family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by infant daughter Janice Louise Schroeder, brother Franklin Betts, Sr., sister-in-law Betty Betts, and mother, Helen Betts.
Gladys was an alumnus of Richland Rural School in Allensville, Ohio. She retired from Medical Center Hospital as a nursing assistant, working predominantly in the pediatric unit. Her special skills and compassion were recognized as she was trusted with the care of the most acutely ill pediatric patients. She was an active member of the Walnut Grove Church. She loved serving the Lord and willingly helped out in any area needed. She was a delegate to the Scioto Valley Christian Conference. She loved her family, being especially proud of the achievements of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most remember her by her smile, stating they never saw her without a smile on her face. Heaven definitely gained an angel.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim McFadden officiating. Interment will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Vinton County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
