Harold William “Bill” Cassill, 86, of Delaware, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 after a short battle with cancer. He was born February 25, 1931 in Vinton County, Ohio, son of the late Dorothea Cassill.
Bill was a 1948 graduate of Allensville High School and then attended The Ohio State University where he earned is Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees specializing in Industrial Technology. Bill was a Second Lieutenant and Captain in the United Stated Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In addition he was a faculty member at the Officers Training School at Lockland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. After leaving the military, Bill worked as a high school and college professor. After earning his Ph.D. in 1977, Dr. Cassill was a faculty member at the West Virginia University of Technology, Northwest State Community College and Bowling Green State University. Bill was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Home Builders Association of Charleston, West Virginia. After college teaching, Bill earned a commercial contractor’s license with such companies as the McKnight Group. After retirement, Bill enjoyed travel, photography and architectural and military history.
He is survived by his son, William Christopher (Sonja Semak) Cassill of Issaquah, Washington; two grandchildren; sister, Donna Scott of Delaware; niece, Susan Scott of Delaware and nephew, Bob Scott of Delaware.
A remembrance gathering will be held 12 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2017 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. officiating. Inurnment will be held in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Vinton County at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, one hour prior to the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of H. William “Bill” Cassill to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
