Harold L. Nichols

October 4, 1937 — October 9, 2021

Harold L. Nichols, 84, of Logan, formerly of McArthur, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 9, 2021.  Harold was born October 4, 1937, in Radcliff, Ohio, son of the late Charles W. and Bernita Pendleton Nichols.

Harold was a graduate of McArthur High School class of 1957.

Harold joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1958. Stationed at Camp Pendleton San Diego, Ca. After his military service Harold returned home to McArthur, Ohio for a short time before returning to California.

Harold worked for the California Department of Correction for 30 years and retired just after his 55th birthday and found his way back to his hometown of McArthur, Ohio.

Harold enjoyed Hunting, fishing and riding his Honda trail bike all over the county to pick wild blackberries. He would pick only the largest of the berries, they had to be as big as your thumb, nothing but the best for a good blackberry pie.

Harold enjoyed passing the time with friends over a cup of coffee or two at Rick’s. There was a schedule and his friends were faithful to that schedule, coffee in the morning at about 8:30 and once again that afternoon around 4:30.

Harold played football and basketball for McArthur High School, so on his return to McArthur he made his way to nearly every Friday night football game, home or away. Standing along the sideline fence as close to the field as possible to follow the action, always a fan of the Vinton County High School Vikings.

There are so many stories from family and friends that we will all recall, Harold loved and supported us all. Remember those stories and remind those around you just how Harold touched your heart.

Harold is survived by his sons, Charles (Tacy) Nichols of Spokane, Washington and Robert Burns of Lancaster; daughter, Carolyn Miller of Logan; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, William (Bonnie Joy) Nichols of North Carolina and Tom (Nancy) Lambert of Katy, Texas; sisters, Betty Williams of Florida, Pamela Newsome of Wilkesville, and Jenny (Andy) Duffy of Wellston; sister-in-law, Shirley Nichols of McArthur; several cousins including Ronald (Linda) Trainer and David Trainer; and close friends, John Hill and Fred Cates.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife Linda Rhea Nichols; first wife, Ruth Anice; sons, Robert Nichols and Darrel Nichols; and brothers, Jerry Nichols and Lawrence Nichols.
