Hubert "Dick" Covert

Hubert Richard “Dick” Covert went to be with the Lord July 27, 2024. He stepped into heaven surrounded by his family whom he loved so dearly.  He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pat Lovsey Covert; son and daughter-in-law, Duane & Sandra Covert (Nelsonville); daughter and son-in-law, Lana & Greg McGrath (Chillicothe). Also left to carry his legacy of love and faithfulness are his grandchildren: Aaron (Hanna) McGrath (Bainbridge, OH), Justin (Jessica) McGrath (Wadsworth, OH), Micah Covert (Nelsonvillle), Alyssa (Wesley) Parker (Bainbridge, OH), Seth (Molly) Covert (Ft. Liberty, NC), and Caleb (Angela) Covert (Ft. Walton, FL); Great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Boston Patterson, Kylee McGrath, Alex, Maggie, Elena and Cole Parker, Gabriel and Allie Covert, and Waylon Covert; two brothers, Gary (Jacquie) Covert (Pataskala, OH) and David Covert (Nelsonville); and a very special friend and part of the Covert family, Sabine Liebeskind of Germany.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mount Vernon Covert and Thelma Covert; brothers Ted, Chuck, Bob and Darrel; and sisters, Dorothy, Mary, Carolyn, and Virginia; an infant daughter and great-granddaughter, Wren.

Dick retired from Western Southern Life Insurance after 30 years of service then returned as a consultant for the company for 3 more years.  He served in the U.S. Army 2 ½ years, the Ohio National Guard for 20 years, worked at McFadden Insurance for 17 years and served as a lay pastor for 11 years. He loved working with people, sharing his wisdom and love for the Lord.

He loved hunting, fishing, travelling, writing, and reading. He especially loved any time spent at his little cabin in the woods. We are comforted and find peace knowing for certain he is with His Lord and Savior and those he loved who went before him. His words for all would be to seek Jesus, accept the gift of salvation, and walk with the Lord.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Nelsonville, 205 W. Columbus St, Nelsonville. Visiting hours will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors by the Combined Color Guard. The family invites family and friends to continue the celebration of his life at the church following the services.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation which helps veterans and first responders and their families. Donations can be made at t2t.org or mailed to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
