Jack “Jackie” Lee Dexter Jr., 86, of Logan, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the Pickering House in Lancaster. He was born January 3, 1938, in Logan, Ohio, son of the late Jack and Katherine Jones Dexter Sr.
He graduated from Logan High School in 1956 where he excelled in basketball, baseball and football. After high school, Jackie started working for Carborundum. He served 2 years in the US Army, stationed in Korea. Then returned to Carborundum until his retirement. Jackie was a member of the Logan Church of the Nazarene.
On August 24, 1966, he married his wife, Betty Irene Ashby, who survives. In addition to his wife Betty, Jack is survived by his sons, Mark (Maxie) Dexter, Timmie (Deborah) Dexter and David Hughes, all of Logan, grandchildren, Ryan (Ayana) Dexter of Reynoldsburg, Jill (Cameron) Tackett of Athens, Hanah (Alex) Olejniczak of Logan, Emily Olejniczak of Logan, Casey Mitchell of Conyers, Georgia, David Johnson of Logansville, Georgia, Maurice Hughes of Portland, Oregon, Ashley Wagner of Fairfield, California, Ry’Lee Dexter of Columbus and Rayana Miller of Columbus; seventeen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Junior (Margaret Ann) Peppers, Charles (Nettie) Peppers and Dick (Ann) Peppers; sisters, Janet “Sue” (Rollie) Fisher and Doris “Jean” (Charles) Mitchell; father and mother-in-law, John and Luwilda Ashby; brother-in-law, Alfred Ashby and sister-in-law, Esther (Charles) Fraticelli.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2024, in the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Pastor John Williams officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan, with military graveside services being conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Jack Lee Dexter Jr. to FairHope Hospice, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
