James L. Barnhart Sr.

James Leroy Barnhart Sr., 67 of Athens, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born January 14, 1955, in Nelsonville, the son of the late, Earl William Barnhart and Virginia McDonald. He married to Nellie “Nel” Hall Barnhart, who preceded him in death.

James served in the US Army during Vietnam.  He retired from the Ohio University Inn.

James is survived by his son, James L. Barnhart Jr. of Athens; daughters, Christi Barnhart of Athens, Jamie (Jamie) Darnell of Albany, and Tauna Barnhart of Athens; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Jess (Betty) Barnhart of Trimble and Steve Barnhart of Belpre; sister, Linda Mount of The Plains; and several step brothers, step sisters; nieces, and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Geraldine Teal; brother, Bill Barnhart; and step brother, Frank Wood.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are by the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
