James J. Casserly, 75, of Hamden, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at his residence. He was born January 22, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late William J. and Maxine Kehrer Casserly. Jim was married for 52 years to Julia McKibben Casserly, who survives.
He retired as a Manufacturer’s Representative and was a Vietnam War Air Force Veteran. Jim was a Sunday School teacher for approximately 20 years at Grace Brethren Church in Columbus and several additional years at Epworth United Methodist Church in Columbus as well as Grace Baptist Church in McArthur. He also conducted ministries in Nursing Homes and Convalescence Centers. A special highlight in Jim’s life was playing high school football at Eastmore High School for Coach Bob Stuart. He was also an accomplished marathon runner and Ironman.
In addition to his wife Julia, Jim is survived by his son, Sean (Donna) Casserly of Shorewood, Illinois; daughter, Megan J. Graham of Hamden; grandchildren, Trevor (Krista) Casserly, Alexandria Casserly, Reagan Casserly, Aiden Graham and Ella Graham; brother, Ron (Judy) Casserly of Gahanna; sister-in-law, Donna Casserly and a beloved Aunt, Joan Webster.
Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Casserly.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2018 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Bernie Simmons officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
