James R. “Esaw” Eberts, 93, of Hamden, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at his residence. He was born March 12, 1926, in Vinton County, son of the late Harry and Molly Collins Eberts. Esaw was married to Nellie L. Wiseman Eberts, who survives.
He owned and operated James R. Eberts Construction Corporation; Eberts Coal Co. Inc.; EELM Holding Co. LTD; and Eberts Farms. Esaw was a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of Truth Church.
He is survived by his sons, James L. (Diana) Eberts, Terry R. Eberts and Timothy H. (Janie) Eberts, all of Hamden; grandchildren, Jamie (Aaron) Collins, Aaron (Katie) Eberts, Ben (Danielle) Eberts, Kelly (Dustin) Bartoe, Shannon (Nathan) Riley, Jason (Ginger) Eberts and Matt Eberts; several great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Ralph Sowers of Waverly.
In addition to his parents, Esaw was preceded in death by eight siblings and a granddaughter, Rachel.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur. Interment will be in Hamden Cemetery, Hamden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 6-8 p.m.
