James Richard “Jim” “Devil Dog” Rutter, 60, of The Plains, OH, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at Ohio Health O’Bleness Hospital in Athens. He was born March 9, 1957 in The Plains, Ohio, son of the late Shirley Ann Rutter. He was married to Beverly LaFollette Rutter, who survives, for 27 years.
Jim was a 1975 graduate of Athens High School; a proud Marine Corps Veteran; and a retired truck driver. Formerly a member of the Nazarene Church, he had a love for computers and working on them. He was a big fan of Ohio State football, The Cincinnati Reds and The Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers. He was greatly loved and will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Jessica (Charles) Rood of Cutler and Julie (Shane) Polcyn of The Plains; step-children, Jamie (Lyle) Gillum of Ray and Jason Wachenschwanz of Logan; nine grandchildren, Brianna, Acadia, and Noah, Trenton, Adriana, Amber and Gage, Elizabeth and Brantley; special first cousin, "little brother" Harold Mourn; several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; special friend, John Hooper and his beloved cats.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, James and Beatrice Rutter, who raised him as a child; sister, Cathy Sue FaFollette; and special uncle he looked up to as his dad, Harold "Wimpy" Mourn.
Jim’s wishes were to be cremated and a graveside service with military honors and inurnment will be Saturday October 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 15550 Elm Rock Rd., Nelsonville, Ohio 45764. Arrangements are by the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
