Jean Ann Simmers

Jean Ann Simmers, 95, of The Plains, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at O’Bleness Hospital, Athens. She was born June 5, 1928, in Jamestown, New York, the daughter of the late Eric and Gretchen (Hultberg) Carlson. She was the widow of the late John Edward Simmers.

Jean served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  She started as a cook in the Navy and then went on to several other jobs that all involved her wonderful cooking. She was a member of Bread of Life Church in Jacksonville, and she was a member of the Athens Senior Citizens.

Jean is survived by her grandsons, John Edward Simmers and Richard W. Simmers both of Nelsonville; great grandson, Cameron Simmers; sister-in-law, Sherry Petterson; and special friends, Tabatha McDade, Ruth Russell, and Cassie.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Keith Simmers; and brother, Roger Peterson.

No services will be held at this time.  Arrangements are by the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
