John S. Bishop Jr.

John S. Bishop Jr., 93, of Vinton, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at Four Winds Nursing Home in Jackson.  He was born November 16, 1923 in Vinton County, son of the late John and Ethel Buckley Bishop Sr.  John was married to the late Dora Riley Bishop, who passed away in 1991.

He was a retired saw miller; one of the first Wilkesville Fireman and was a member of Wilkesville United Methodist Church.

John is survived by his son, Charles (Christy) Bishop of Hamden; daughters, Edith Huston of Jackson and Pam (John) Whiting of Vinton; grandchildren, Kevin (Julie) Huston of Jackson, Marsha (Heath) Ward of Hamden and Charles (Chanda) Bishop of Wellston and great grandchildren, Destiny, Tyler, Donovan and Charleigh.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his great grandson, Josiah and sisters, Ellen Jane Bishop, Catherine Garvin, Alene Jarvis, Laura Newman and Maymie Turner.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Wilkesville United Methodist Church, 121 S. Mill St., Wilkesville, with Rev. Mark Brookins officiating.  Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Jackson.  Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m.
