Lana Maxine “Sammie” Haybron, 84, of Creola, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022, at her residence. She was born March 12, 1938, in Creola, Ohio, daughter of the late Charles and Anna Miller Karns.
She retired from Twin Maples Home Health Care after 30 years of service. Sammie supported Cornelius Chapel Church and was a 1955 graduate of McArthur High School. She enjoyed gardening, her yearly tradition of baking and decorating Christmas cookies with the family, loved farming and her animals. Sammie also loved bird watching and was a strong advocate of the Vinton County 4-H program.
She is survived by her sons, Charles “Max” (Lana) Haybron of Creola, Mark (Teri) Haybron of McArthur and Matthew (Debbie) Haybron of McArthur; daughter, Christina (David) Gill of McArthur; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister, Linda (Frank) Griffy of McArthur; a special niece, Jackie Ann (Donald) Nunley of Lancaster; her dog, Trixie; two cats, Barbie and Bart and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Kyle Thrush; brothers, Elmer “Burt” Karns and Charles “Cy” Karns and sisters, Mary Kraker and Jo Perry.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2022, at Cornelius Chapel Church, 64894 Karns Rd., Creola, with Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. and Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
