Larry Franklin Carpenter, 74, of Londonderry, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born December 22, 1944 in New Plymouth, Ohio, son of the late Rothby and Sylvia Wachenschwanz Carpenter. Larry was married for 50 years to Karen Atwood Carpenter, who survives. They were united in marriage on December 14, 1968.
Larry was a retired welder for Jim Nier Construction in Piketon and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a retired Charter Member of the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department where he was also an EMT, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, going to the beach and the casino.
Larry is survived by his brothers, Robert Carpenter of New Plymouth, Herbert Carpenter of Jackson, James Carpenter of Andalusia, Alabama and Russell (Irene) Carpenter of Chillicothe; sister, Nancy (Earl) Truman of Chillicothe; special sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Dennis Mitchell of Londonderry; brother-in-law, Ron (Roni) Atwood of Londonderry; special niece, Brenda and Phil Roof of Londonderry and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Carpenter; sister, Anna Mae Carpenter and infant brother, Rothby Carpenter Jr.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2019 in Boblett Cemetery, Vinton County, with Rev. Jim Taylor officiating and military services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m.
