Mardell Campbell

August 11, 1925 — September 23, 2023

Mardell Campbell, 98, of Nelsonville, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Laurels of Athens. She was born August 11, 1925, in Buchtel, the daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice (Phillips) Hillyer. She was the widow of the late John Campbell.

Mardell was a graduate of Murray City High School and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Mount Saint Mary’s Hospital, Nelsonville where she was a Registered Nurse for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Nelsonville.

Mardell is survived by her sons, Michael Campbell of Bakersfield, California and Douglas (Nancy) Campbell of Powell; grandchildren, Christine Campbell of Powell, Gregory Campbell of Powell, Joseph (Stephanie) Campbell of Maricopa, Arizona, and Karla (Tyler) Daniels of West Jefferson; and several great grandchildren.

Mardell was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John Nicholas “Nick” Campbell; sister, Patricia Wagoner; and brothers, Howard Hillyer, Harold Hillyer, and Jack Hillyer.

Graveside Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 29, 2023, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville with Pastor Peter Galbraith officiating. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 to 11:40 am Friday at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
