Margaret “Sis” Alena Whitmore, 96, of Nelsonville, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. She was born September 8, 1925, in Belmont County, Ohio, the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Mourn) Dishong. She was the widow of the late Thomas Whitmore.
Sis was a 1949 graduate of Nelsonville High School. She formerly worked at Blackburn’s Restaurant in Athens, the Sylvania Plant in Nelsonville, and spent most of her working years at Goodyear in Logan. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3467 and she enjoyed volunteering her time, helping Veterans and other organizations for over 30 years.
Sis is survived by her daughters, Millie (Ike) Gwilym of Nelsonville and Sue Mingus of Buchtel; grandchildren, Jason (Elizabeth) Gwilym, Christopher (Landon Bautista) Mingus, and Brandon (Jamie Posekany) Mingus.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Keith, Bob, Jack, and Jim Dishong; sister, Ann Collins; and son-in-law, Randy Mingus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2022, in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville. Interment will be in Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may visit Friday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home, with a service by the Nelsonville VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3467 at 7:00 PM.
