Mary Ann Simms

Mary Ann Simms, 65, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the James Cancer Center, in Columbus, Ohio.

Born September 6, 1952 in Nelsonville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Jennie Bruce. She graduated in 1970 from Nelsonville-York High School. She worked for over 25 years for Doctors Hospital in Nelsonville. She married Edward “Doc” Simms and they had two children Matthew and Mallory. After her first diagnosis with cancer in the 1990’s she became one of the three founding members of the Southeast Ohio Breast Cancer Survivor’s Network.

She is survived by her husband Doc, her son and daughter in law Matthew and Susan Simms, and a daughter Mallory and her fiancé Paul Swaim, and grandchildren Katelyn McCune, Michael Simms, and Aden McCune, along with a large extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Gary Bruce and a sister Nancy Warren.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday February 23, 2018 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor Georgeann Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville. Friends may visit Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
