Mason James White, 18, of New Plymouth, Ohio, passed away June 14, 2024, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Mason was born in Athens, Ohio on March 4, 2006, to Jacob Jedediah and Amy (Young) White.
Mason was preceded in death by grandparents, Russell and Sara White and David Young. He is survived by his parents; siblings, Sara and Maxwell White; grandmothers, Jan Manchester and Nancy Young; aunts, Megan (Brandon) Garrison and Karli (Alex) Moebius; uncle, Josh White; cousins, Willa White and Luka Moebius, and many dear friends he considered family, lovingly referred to as his "framily."
A talented musician, Mason's life was deeply intertwined with music from a young age. After first learning to play piano in elementary school, he went on to master french horn, mellophone, and guitar. His talent was spectacular. He had fond memories and formed many friendships while playing in marching band, concert band, and jazz band at both Vinton County High School (8th - 10th grades) and Logan High School (11th and 12th grades) where he graduated in the Class of 2024. Marching band was his favorite sport, and he was truly in his element on the band field. Mason was enrolled and preparing to begin his studies in music performance at Ohio University in the fall. He aspired for a career as an orchestral musician.
Mason had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and kayaking. An active participant in Boy Scouts throughout his childhood, he completed requirements to earn the position of Life Rank, and was a member of the national scouting honor society: Order of the Arrow. His passion for vehicles extended to cars, motorcycles, go-karts, ATVs, and jet skis. He enjoyed attending car shows and any opportunity to tinker on a vehicle.
Known for his intelligence, creativity, uniqueness, respectfulness, and inclusivity, Mason was a remarkable young man who touched the lives of many. The family has been overwhelmed with messages about Mason’s kindness and friendship. He will be profoundly missed, and the world has lost an extraordinary individual.
We will celebrate Mason with a candlelight concert Friday, June 21, 8:30pm at Logan High School field/stadium. Additional details will be released as they are confirmed, but please bring a battery operated candle(s) if you have one. This will be the only service the family is planning at this time.
