Melvin Merle Hunter, 88, of McArthur, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson. He was born May 27, 1929 in Hocking County, son of the late Merle and Alma Baldwin Hunter. Melvin was married for 70 years to Janie Betts Hunter, who survives.
He was a retired Superintendent for the Vinton County Highway Department.
Melvin is survived by his grandchildren, Tracy (Kyle) Lamb of Newark and Michael L. (Deanna) Hunter of McArthur; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; sister, Stella Garrabrant of New Albany and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Melvin Lee Hunter; three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2017 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Danny Minton officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
