Merle Matthew Bethel

Merle Matthew Bethel, 90, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018 at his residence.  He was born July 19, 1928 in Allensville, son of the late Clifford McKinley and Opal Campbell Bethel.  Merle was married for 63 years to the late Beryl Edith Detty Bethel.

He retired as the Assistant Superintendent for ODOT and was a member of Allensville Christian Church.

Merle is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Stormy) Robson of McArthur; sons, Merle Matthew (Linda) Bethel Jr. of Allensville and Clifford Ray (Cindy) Bethel of Moore Haven, Florida; grandchildren, Matt (Evette) Bethel, Travis (Ashleigh) Bethel, Christopher (Stacy) Bethel, Melissa (Matjaz) Ruzic, Abraham Ray (Lori) Bethel, Alexi (Carolina) Bethel and Audrey Robson; nineteen great grandchildren; step sister, Donna Seitz of Allensville and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Sowers.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Ron Baxter officiating.  Interment will be in Bell Cemetery, Vinton County.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m.
