Nellie Christine "Nel" Barnhart

Nellie Christine “Nel” Barnhart, 64, of Athens, passed away Thursday December 28, 2017 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. She was born November 6, 1953 in Nelsonville, Ohio, daughter of the late Leslie K. and Gladys E. Murphy Hall Sr. She was married to James L. Barnhart Sr., who survives, for 45 years.

Along with her husband, Nel is survived by son, James L. Barnhart Jr. of Athens; daughters, Christi Barnhart of Albany, Jamie (Jamie) Darnell of Albany and Tauna Barnhart of Athens; 11 grandchildren; brother, Bucky (Christy) Hall of Nelsonville; sisters, Brenda (Dan) West of New Marshfield, Vicky (Jeff) Stevens of Amanda, Mary Ellen Teal of Nelsonville, Lorrie (Manford) Casto of Port Clinton, Pam Canter of Athens and Ruthie Cullums of Nelsonville; many nieces and nephews; and beloved dog “Zoey”.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Penny Hall; brothers, Gary Hall, Bill Jack Hall and Les Hall Jr.

A Memorial Service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday January 2, 2018 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Josh Roberts officiating. Friends may visit from 12 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
