Nevin B. Souers, 81, of Naples, FL was called to be with the Lord on December 4, 2021. Everyone who knew Nevin knew he was an extremely kind, loving, gentle person who loved his family very much. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn R. (née Ely) Souers; daughters, Melissa ( Phil) Warga of Salem, OH, and Jennifer (Todd) Guber of Boston, MA; granddaughter, Katie Warga of Columbus, OH; grandson, Curtis Warga of Salem, OH; siblings, Mitch (Judy) Souers of Canton, OH, Sanford (Betty Jean) Souers of Jacksonville, FL, Mark (Kathy) Souers of Crystal Beach, FL, Beverly (Dick) Raebel of Chamblee, GA, Gail (Gary) Linerode of Plymouth, MI andVickie (Tim) Postlewaite of Newcomerstown, OH; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Janice McLaughlin and Nadine Klitz.
Nevin was born in Louisville, OH on April 16, 1940, to the late Lester and Irene Souers. He graduated from Louisville High School in 1958, attended Kent State University and Pittsburgh Mortuary School. After graduation, Nevin worked for several funeral homes and in 1973 he and his wife, Carolyn, owned and operated Souers Funeral Home in Nelsonville, OH. Besides serving the community as a funeral director, he was active in several civic organizations. He served on The First National Bank board, Hocking College board of directors and was an active member of Nelsonville’s Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he was the recipient of numerous civic awards.
In 1999, Nevin and Carolyn retired to Naples, FL. During his time in Naples, Nevin was a pillar in his Christian community. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and served on the vestry for many years. He also attended a Men’s Bible study, which was an important commitment in his life. In addition, he co-founded the Men’s Golf Fellowship in Glen Eagle Golf and Country Club. He was involved with St. Matthew’s House, serving on one of the boards and he co-chaired the Golfathon Tournament. Nevin had a passion for landscaping, golfing, walking, and traveling. He was one of a kind, Nevin will never be forgotten but forever remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 500 Park Shore Drive, Naples.
Nevin’s final resting place will be at Union Cemetery in Louisville, OH. Arrangements are pending with Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville, OH.
